Actor and model Lance Gross, who is best known for his role on the TBS sitcom Tyler Perry's House of Payne, posted the holiday photo of himself and his wife Rebecca Jefferson and their seven friends to his Twitter.
It sparked a fierce debate with some social media users quick to accuse Gross of colorism because the woman concerned is the only one without a partner, is on the fringes of the group and is darker skinned than the other women. And just so everyone can RELAX, the photo is a annual tradition– ITS A JOKE!
Gross responded to the backlash by calling it ignorant in an Instagram post.
He is a 2013 graduate of Lead Atlanta, a 2007 recipient of Atlanta’s highest honor, the Phoenix Award, the recipient of the 2013 Political Advocate Award, and has served as a speaker for Harvard Law School’s Charles Hamilton Houston Lecture Series.
The holidays bring together family and friends, but for social media, a photo from Lance Gross and his friends ignited a conversation about colorism.
